| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS | INTRODUCTION: Minerals are naturally occurring solids formed in the earth through ongoing geological processes. These inorganic nutrients are the building blocks of the human body. Minerals are involved in virtually every bodily system and are vital to all mental & physical processes & for total well being Modern man is returning to the use of these healthy natural elements like the ancients. Egyptian history with their use of “colored earth” for beautification and sun protection has inspired this re-discovery of natural mineral cosmetics. This ancient technology is the foundation of the modern day mineral makeup revolution. Earthen Glow Minerals does not use artificial fragrances, colors, waxes, preservatives or fillers in our loose mineral cosmetic formulas. It is these agents often lead to skin irritation. Our formulas are kept as natural, as possible and our ingredients are posted at the ingredients tab. MINERAL MAKE-UP FACTS: • Mineral makeup is recommended by many dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons for the following reasons. • Mineral cosmetics contain combinations of natural ingredients such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, and mica. • Iron oxides are naturally heat absorbing making them "natural sunscreen" ingredients. The oxides protect the skin from potentially cancer-causing skin damaging UVA and UVB rays. • Minerals are naturally light reflective, which makes them ideal for mature skin, since they minimize lines and wrinkles • Mineral cosmetics do not obstruct the skin, they are gentle and non-invasive, non-comedogenic (non-comedogenic refers to whether or not an ingredient or product contributes to the clogging of pores). • Mineral cosmetics are soothing and healing for people with oily and acne skin. • It is the best cosmetic for anyone with acne, rosacea or other skin conditions; the natural ingredients are soothing and less likely to cause reactions. • Numerous reviews and testimonials consistently mention how easy it is to apply and how wonderfully it camouflages skin imperfections. • Many users have reported how using natural makeup contributes to their skin's overall health and wellbeing. • They say their pores look smaller. • Blemishes or roughness that may be caused by unknown allergies to other makeup products disappear • Mineral cosmetics naturally provide long-lasting coverage with a lightweight feel • Mineral cosmetics are naturally water resistant. • You can control the coverage by adding thin layers until the desired coverage is achieved. • In general, the regular use of mineral makeup causes your skin to look and feel healthy, even when you aren't wearing makeup. FREQUENT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: Q. Does your company do any testing on animals? A. We do not test on animals. Q: How do I select the foundation shade best suited for my skin tone? A: Choose a color that matches your skin along the jaw line. That way it blends into the neck area without leaving a line of demarcation. Always check your foundation in natural and artificial light to ensure that you have a natural finish. Women who tend to burn usually have cool skin tones. Look at your face in the mirror without any makeup. If your skin is fair to medium and has a pink, red, or blue tone, then you are a cool skin tone Women who tan easily usually have warm skin tones. If your skin is fair to medium and has more of an olive or golden tone, then your skin tone is warm. If you do not see any distinctive pink, red, blue, olive or golden tone, then you probably have a neutral skin tone. Most women will find that they fall into the warm / yellow / golden base. This is applicable to women of color of Native-American, Latin, African-American, and Asian descent as well as those of European descent. This is easily determined by looking at the underside of one’s wrist. Those with veins that appear green are most likely in the warm / yellow / golden undertoned family. This means that ideal foundation hues for them are found in either our yellow, peach, or gold family of foundations. To determine if your skin tone is yellow, look carefully at the skin coloring on your face with no makeup on. If your complexion appears sallow, you are likely yellow toned. If there is a slight flushed look to your bare skin you are likely peach toned. If your complexion appears to exhibit a slight glow to it when bare, you are likely golden in tone. All of these three categories are likely to have some degree of freckling. To determine if you are cool, pink, red, or blue in tone look carefully at the coloring of your veins on the underside of your wrist. If your veins appear to be blue in color then you are likely cool in coloring. A smaller percentage of women globally fall into this category but it is more prevalent in women of Nordic descent, Caribbean descent, and West and Central Sub-Saharan African descent. Those who are very fair in color and have definite pink coloring to their complexions may choose to match their natural complexion or minimize the pink coloring by moving to a foundation color of the same tone, as their natural complexion, but slightly more neutral, such as beige or yellow to off-set and tone down their natural cool coloring. If your facial skin has redness due to sensitivity or irritations, you must consider what your skin tone normally looks like. Try matching the foundation color to your inner arm skin tone as it is similar to your normal facial skin tone. To determine if you are neutral in coloring examine the underside of your wrist. Both blue and green will be present making it a bit more difficult to distinguish between warm and cool. More women of European descent fall into this category (beige-neutral) than actually fall into the cool category. Those with olive complexions will find ideal foundation matches in either our golden-hued foundations or our olive foundations. If your skin is too ruddy you may opt to use something with a yellow base to neutralize the redness. If your skin is overly sallow you may opt for a peach-based foundation to yield vibrancy to your complexion. If the skin is too olive, you may choose colors like pinks or plums for your blush and lip colors to brighten the face. A foundation that is pink based is not flattering on olive skin. Once you have determined if you have a warm, beige, olive, or cool undertone you will need to determine the depth of your complexion. Is your skin tone pale, light, medium, tan, deep, etc...? Does your skin tone change drastically between winter and summer months? If yes, you might need to consider separate foundation colors for the winter and summer seasons. Q: How do I apply mineral foundation? A: For best results always make sure your skin is thoroughly cleansed, well hydrated and moisturized before applying makeup to avoid dry patches or uneven application. Well hydrated skin is also less likely to become shiny due to overly active sebum secretion. Sprinkle a small amount of minerals onto the lid (if you have the full size) or into a small bowl or dish. Swirl your brush into the powders allowing the powders to cover the lower surface of the brush. The minerals should look like a light dusting on your brush. Tap off any excess before applying to the face. Apply the minerals using a circular blending motion. Take care to blend or buff well. If more is needed repeat the process until the desired level of coverage is achieved. To get a flawless natural look, always apply mineral foundation in thin, light layers. Keep adding layers until the desired coverage has been reached. Keep in mind that two or more light applications of your mineral foundation are better than one heavy application Q: Who can wear mineral makeup? A: Anyone. Mineral makeup is natural and hypo-allergenic. It is free of chemicals, waxes, oils, and preservatives. It is beneficial for dry, oily, or problematic skin. It also has light reflective properties making it ideal for skin that is mature and may have enlarged pores, lines, or wrinkles. It provides natural sun screen due to the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in its formulation. It is also beneficial for skin that is acne prone because of its soothing and healing properties and ingredients. Q: What brushes do you recommend? A: We carry quality brushes that will optimize your application results. We recommend our Sable Kabuki or Flat Top Brush. These brushes are superb. They have dense hair that will grab and hold the minerals and distribute them evenly to give you a natural finish. They are also soft in feel allowing ease and comfort when blending or buffing foundation powders on the face. These brushes should be washed at least once a week in either diluted facial cleanser or diluted gentle shampoo and water. Rinse well and allow to dry over night. Q: Why does my foundation look blotchy or uneven and my pores look large? A: This usually happens when your moisturizer hasn't completely absorbed or you are applying the minerals too heavily. Some moisturizers have excessive mineral oil and waxes in them and they just lie on top of the skin surface. We recommend our moisturizer which is free of harmful chemicals but is filled with many healing anti-oxidants and botanicals that are beneficial to your skin. Q: I’ve heard that mineral makeup can be applied wet. How is this done and why do some people prefer this method? A: Many people do prefer using the “wet application” of mineral makeup. This technique results in a finish quite similar to liquid or cream makeup. Many find that this method better serves those with dryer skin types since the medium that is blended with their mineral foundation powders are usually moisturizer, aloe vera gel, or water. When using this method, it is important to apply quickly, especially if your moisturizer is absorbed into your skin quickly -- to avoid uneven coloring. The more powder you add to the moisturizer, the thicker the mixture, and the better the coverage, but the mixture can also dry faster. Generally speaking, wet applications result in heavier coverage. So if you need more coverage, try one of the wet application methods. It is important that water not be introduced into the main product as this may cause contamination. This is why we recommend using a separate small dish reserved for blending and applying your makeup. This will allow you to blend, add water, aloe gel, or moisturizer to your foundation product. Use our mineral lining gel medium, visine or water with minerals for liquid eye liner application or foiling of mineral eye shadows without contaminating your jar of minerals. This dish should be washed clean each day. Mix a SMALL amount of loose foundation with your favorite facial lotion, serum, cream or aloe vera gel. Apply with cosmetic sponge or with clean fingers. Q: Any "Wet" Application Methods?: 1: Sprinkle a small amount of mineral foundation onto a small dish. Add a smaller amount of your desired “wetting agent” which is often moisturizer, aloe vera gel, hydrosol, or water. Blend the two together and apply with either clean finger tips or a foundation brush. Take care to apply quickly to avoid blotchiness in your finish. 2: Sprinkle a SMALL amount of foundation into the jar lid, your palm or a small dish. Pick up a SMALL amount of foundation powder with your brush; tap the handle lightly on the hard surface to let powder settle into the brush. Spray the brush with a mineral mist or your favorite toner. Apply foundation in a circular motion (buffing) on your face, covering one area at a time. Reapply until you get the coverage you want. Work the foundation into the skin by pressing the brush gently but firmly to face and use some pressure. Pressure is very important to the overall "look" of the product. Too light a hand will end up making your look pasty. Q: I tried mineral makeup once before and it looked very chalky on the skin, why did this happen? A: There are several possible explanations. The first possible explanation could be that too much foundation was applied. We recommend applying in small amounts, blending and buffing well, and then applying more if needed. It is better to begin with small amounts and build up to the desired coverage. It is also very important to buff/blend well. This process not only evenly distributes the foundation but also heats up the minerals and allows them to meld with your own skin. You will often notice that your foundation will appear more flattering within 10 to 15 minutes after applying. This is due to the minerals melding with your skin because of body heat. Another explanation could be that the wrong color selection was made. Using a foundation shade that is too light will often result in a chalky appearance. Or it may be the manufacturer uses talc or other filler ingredients in their formula. Q: For whom is mineral makeup best and who should use it? A: Those who are concerned about the well-being of their skin, especially sensitive and or acne prone skin. Q: I have rosacea. Will your product irritate my condition and is it heavy enough to cover the redness of my condition? A: Yes, mineral makeup provides amazing coverage of acne, rosacea and redness. It is also recommended by many dermatologists for use following chemical peels and laser resurfacing Q: Many foundations seem to irritate my acne and cause my skin to break out. Will mineral makeup do this? A: Mineral makeup is non- clogging and non-irritating and comes highly recommended by many dermatologists and estheticians. Mineral makeup foundation contains zinc oxide, a common ingredient used in anti-acne treatments. It’s soothing and healing properties result in better skin condition for most users. Q: Mineral powders look shiny after I apply them, why is that? A: In some mineral foundations this is due to the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride. We do not use that ingredient in any of our products because of its propensity to create itching and irritation in many users. Our youthful glow foundation is designed to create a soft and subtle glow. It is imperative that this foundation be buffed well as this is a necessary step for an optimal finish that is beautiful and radiant. Q: Do I need to use The Finish finishing powder to set my foundation? A: No. Our foundations stand up well on their own, and a finishing powder is not necessary. Our finishing powder will provide a soft and air-brushed finish. It will also assist in minimizing and blurring any facial imperfections such as enlarged pores, lines, and wrinkles. Q: Does your foundation have SPF 15 protection? A: All mineral makeup that contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide protection from the sun. Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide have a SPF rating of 20 by nature of the product itself. Under FDA guidelines however, without expensive testing we cannot indicate the specific level of sun protection of our products. Q: Is mineral makeup good for oily skin? A: Yes, mineral makeup is highly recommended for oily skin. Mineral makeup is free of oils and waxes so that it will not slide off during the day. You can also use our primer powder formulated for oily skin prior to applying foundation. Q: Do you use micronized ingredients? A: No because the skin may be extremely susceptible to absorbing them because of their tiny size. We do not use any nanoparticles. Q: How should I clean my brushes? A: You should clean your brushes every 3 to 4 weeks, at a minimum, more often if you have had illness or if you have severe acne. Wash your brushes in warm water with a gentle cleanser such as facial cleanser or mild shampoo. Work the cleanser into the brush. Rinse with warm water, squeeze out the excess moisture and let air-dry. It is best to lay your brushes to dry with the handles slightly elevated so the moisture will drain downward. This is very important when cleaning your brushes, especially your Kabuki brush. Q: How does your product compare to other major mineral makeup companies? A: We use only the highest quality minerals and pigments offering you a superior product at competitive price. Foundations Q: I have scarring from acne will this makeup cover scars? A: On skin that has scarring or is uneven you may opt to try one of our heavier coverage foundation blends such as Cover Me or Mica Free. Both of these provide medium to heavy coverage with just one light application. They can also be applied dampened for a heavier effect. If our mineral foundation does not give you enough coverage or you prefer one of our other formulations, then try applying our mineral Concealer to those areas and blend with your foundation Q: I have dry skin, can I wear mineral make-up even though it is a dry product? A: Of course. Just make certain to moisturize prior to applying your foundation. Allow your moisturizer to dry completely prior to application of foundation. If desired you may also blend a small amount of mineral foundation with either moisturizer or water and apply damp. This will give you coverage similar to a liquid or cream foundation without the preservatives, waxes, and harmful additives. Q: What’s the difference between your foundations? A: We presently carry four varieties of foundations 1) Light and Natural – provides light to medium coverage with a matte finish. It is made of rice powder making it ideal for oily skin types, as rice powder absorbs oil very well and is non irritating to most skin types. 2) Youthful Glow – this formula is ideal for all skin types but especially for women who desire a medium coverage foundation that is light in texture with a creamy consistency. It provides a beautiful finish with a very subtle glow. This foundation is a favorite with our clients, and many state that it looks more beautiful as the day wears on. 3) Cover Me – this formula provides a medium to heavy coverage with a matte finish. This foundation is ideal for those who desire a natural look but have acne or other imperfections that they would like covered. This formula easily doubles as a concealer. 4) Liquid Foundation–this formula is for those who find that they prefer the look and application method of a liquid foundation. We’ve given you a mineral formula that provides excellent coverage that is medium with a matte finish. Many women who prefer this foundation also use our Rice Powder foundation as a finishing powder, which provides them with additional coverage and sets their foundation beautifully for the day. Q: I have heard that you need to “set” mineral makeup. What does that mean and how do I do it? A: Setting your makeup is preferred by some. Why? They feel that this not only increases the staying power of the makeup but also serves to even out the application for a more natural look. This is done by first applying everything prior to your foundation and then spritzing or lightly spraying the face all over with water, diluted toner, or hydrosol. Use a patting and pressing motion pressing the minerals into the skin firmly with your hands, and pause for a few seconds with each press. This heats the minerals allowing them to ‘melt’ into the skin creating a less powdery look. Q: Do mineral foundations expire? A: No, because our Mineral cosmetics are made from inorganic ingredients that do not support microbial growth. It is important that no water is introduced into the product as this may cause contamination of the products. This is why we recommend using a separate small dish reserved for blending and applying your makeup. It is important to keep your brushes and flock sponges clean. Ideally they should be washed every week and at a minimum every 3 to 4 weeks. This will not only eliminate contamination of your brushes but will result in better cosmetic application and will prolong the life of your brushes. To keep your mineral powder makeup as bacteria-free as possible, store your makeup in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving your makeup in your bathroom because the warm temperature and high humidity encourage bacteria growth. Always put the lid on tightly after each use to avoid spillage and moisture getting into the powder. Q: What is foiling and how is this done? A: Foiling is a technique of eye shadow application. This is done by either applying your eye shadow with a dampened brush or by slightly dampening your eye shadow pigments prior to applying them to your face. The result is the color used will appear more vibrant, smooth, and will last until removed. Should you choose to use this method of application it is important that you remember to never introduce water into your main mineral eye shadow rather sprinkle your mineral eye shadow pigments onto a dish and then wet the pigments. Remember that as long as no water or liquid is introduced to your main mineral makeup jar or powders, they have an indefinite shelf life. Q: Do I need a special cleanser to remove my mineral makeup? A: No but we recommend using our Olive Jelly Makeup remover or one of our oil cleansing bars for complete removal of eye makeup and foundation with ease followed by our Botanical facial cleanser. Intermittent use of our exfoliating sponge or cloth will also result in maintaining your beautiful complexion. Q: Will this foundation clog my pores? A: No, mineral foundation allows your skin to breathe and function normally. Q: Can men wear this make-up? A: Yes we have male clients that have discovered our products and love them because our mineral foundations cover redness and provide them with sun screen protection. Make-up helps those who would like their cheekbones to be more prominent, their skin more evenly toned, or their eyes more dramatic. Make-up is also a way to celebrate and accentuate those features that we love and wish to highlight, such as almond-shaped eyes, a perfectly full shaped mouth, or beautifully proportioned features. Q: What is Foundation For? A: Young women may think that foundation isn’t necessary for their needs but the fact is that the right foundation can protect your skin and keep it younger looking longer. Mineral foundations come with SPF sun screen naturally built into them, so whenever you wear foundation, you're protecting your skin from the most damaging environmental conditions. Even young women with flawless skin should wear a light foundation purely for the SPF coverage it affords. The foundation's aesthetic purpose is to correct skin irregularity, hide fine lines and generally provide a base for the rest of your makeup. You can fix your problems with sallow or ruddy skin with the correct color of foundation. Our foundations are available in 4 formulas and come in a wide array of colors to suit all women of all tones and colors. • Youthful Glow…. The foundation that offers medium coverage with a natural youthful hint of glow. • Light and Natural…..The rice based, mineral foundation for all skin types but especially oily skin. Providing a light and natural finish. • Cover Me…..A matte foundation with a little more coverage than any other • Liquid Mineral Foundations….. Our Premium foundation Base PRIMROSE oil, soothing skin conditions like Eczema and Dermatitis These coverage levels range from the lightest and most natural looking coverage,), to our matte foundation with the heaviest coverage Our mineral foundation is also beneficial for male clients. It is a non-invasive form of sun block protection which lends soothing and healing properties to skin that is prone to acne or rosacea. Q: Why Use a Primer A: A primer insures smoothe and even coverage on oily skin. We produce three versions of primer. One is a gel formula and silicone based. This product makes the skin extremely smooth to the touch and will provide a smooth and flawless canvass for makeup application. We also offer two powder versions of primer. Both of these also come in three shades ranging from natural and un-tinted to yellow and tan. One is formulated with Kaolin clay and calcium carbonate and is ideal for oilier skin types. The other is formulated with serecite and calcium carbonate and is ideal for more mature skin types as the serecite in this formula has light reflecting properties and will work to minimize large pores, wrinkles, and lines. If you want a natural look, stick to shades traditionally associated with your skin tone (warm tones for yellow based skins and color once for pink skins) and use the best color harmony. The majority of women have gold-yellow, beige, tones. Apply foundation primer after concealer and after you have applied your eye make-up as this will allow you to fix any mascara or eyeliner smudges and easily wipe away any spills of eye shadow. Q: How to apply mineral foundation? A: Using a light hand load your foundation brush with mineral foundation. Many find it convenient to designate a small dish or saucer for this purpose. If using this method shake out a small amount of mineral foundation onto the dish and then swirl your foundation brush into the bowl or saucer. Begin applying to face first in the center and working your way outward. Blending is important in the application process and will result in a natural and even finish that will last throughout the day. Blending of the foundation is achieved by repeatedly gently rubbing the mineral foundation on the face. When using the Youthful glow foundation you will find that the more you blend the better the resulting finish. Again, apply to the face, beginning at the bridge of the nose, and outward across the cheeks to the hairline. Our Kabuki brush is ideal for applying any of our mineral foundation formulas. This brush will allow you to achieve a light to heavier coverage and will facilitate proper blending. Our Flat Top brush is better for applying a medium to heavier coverage. This brush is a favorite not only for it’s softness but also for its ability to apply and blend mineral foundations quickly. Both are made of the finest sable hairs and are ideal for mineral makeup application due to their ability to grasp and hold the fine pigment powders. The Seasons have an effect on skin tone. So adapt the color of your foundation to suit the season by adding lighter or darker mineral foundation to the foundation you are using, or use one of our “tweaker” colors to adjust the foundation you are using. CONCEALERS Q: How do I use a Concealer? A: The best method for applying concealer that will effectively cover your flaws is to first blend a small amount of concealer product (minerals) with a small amount of our mixing medium, facial toner, or moisturizer. Visine works well as a mixing medium especially for applying concealer directly to acne eruptions. By creating a smooth paste you will find that you will gain heavier coverage that will last for many hours. In most situations concealer is secondary to foundation. Apply under eye concealer right after you have moisturized your face but before you put on your foundation. Using a peach toned concealer under the eyes will usually give the best results in masking dark circles. If you do not have your concealer you can always use a brush dipped in foundation in order to cover any unsightly blemishes or under-eye circles. Choose the shade of your concealer carefully. When testing shades, pick one that matches your skin tone or one shade lighter. It helps to use a mirror outdoors to see how shades look on your skin in natural light. If you find that concealer is needed then keep in mind that the objective is an even skin tone. Prior to foundation application look for areas that require heavier coverage such as darkened areas around the nose, eyes or mouth, or areas where there are blemishes. To cover these areas apply concealer and carefully blend. It is recommended to use a concealer color that is the same as your own skin tone or one shade lighter. For blotchy, red skin use a yellow-toned concealer to neutralize red undertones. CONTOUR AND HIGHLIGHT Q: How do I Contour and Highlight? A: When determining where and how to apply contour and highlighter begin by taking a long look in the mirror and assessing your features. Contour and highlighter balance your face. Keep in mind that what we consider beautiful is actually symmetry. Make note of any overly large or protruding features, or any receding or flat features, that would ideally be more prominent. In short, Contour will be applied where a receding effect is desired and Highlighter will be applied where prominence is desired. We carry three contour duos that cover a wide range of complexions and will lend ease to this beautifying and worthwhile technique of makeup application. Contouring and Highlighting can be easily achieved by using any of our mineral foundation shades. For contouring select a shade that is 2 to 3 shades deeper than your foundation shade. For highlighting select a foundation shade that is 2 to 3 shades lighter than your foundation shade. Contouring and Highlighting should be applied after foundation. Contour is a darker shade than your natural skin tone and therefore will create a receding or shadow effect. Highlight is the opposite and brings things forward in dimensional space, seemingly catching the light. When using natural mineral pigments as the highlighter keep in mind that a little goes a long way. Few of us have a perfect face shape, the most desirable shape usually being oval. Using darker foundation, highlighters and blusher, it is possible to create the illusion of a different face shape. Contouring adds shadows to your face to create more dimensions such as carving the cheeks or accenting the cheekbones, thinning out the nose, etc. To contour apply a slightly darker foundation about 2 shades darker underneath the cheek bone. This will create the illusion of a higher and more prominent cheek bone. Suck in your cheeks as much as you can. You can see and feel the hollow it creates below your cheeks; this is the area you will apply contouring powder to. The brush should fit nicely into the hollow of your cheeks, and you simply guide it upwards alongside the hollow curve moving upward and toward the hairline. To contour the nose apply a small amount to the sides of the nose. You may also apply contour starting at the temple and come down and underneath the cheek bone. It also helps to apply a little immediately under the jaw line and on the chin to frame the face. It gives the face color where it would naturally have color if it was being reflected from the sun. Our angled powder brush can double as a contouring brush. Highlighting is an equally important step that adds dimension to the face. When highlighting you can use the same brush. You take a color that's slightly lighter than your foundation by 2 shades. This can be applied under the eye as well as straight down the surface of the front of the nose and blended out onto the mid-forehead. You want your edges to be undetectable and very well blended. Use a makeup brush to apply the camouflage to those areas of your face that protrude too far forward. For instance, if you have a typical roman nose, you would want to brush some of the camouflage lightly along the edge of the nasal bridge. Start just above the nasal cavities and end just below the point where it lines up with the inner eye. FACIAL SHAPES The Oval face shape is considered to be the ideal. A shape that is perfectly symmetric with broader cheeks that taper in at the forehead and chin describes the oval face. If you are lucky enough to possess this face, enjoy. Your face can support most makeup trends and needs no contouring. Q: Are there Basic Guidelines? A: Apply contour shade on the temples, along the sides of the face and two finger’s length below the cheekbones. Apply highlighter down the center of the nose, under eyes and tip of the chin. The Round face shape is fuller and more youthful. The distance from the forehead to the chin tends to be short, while being wider from cheek to cheek. A round face has full cheeks and a rounded chin. A round face is best characterized by fuller cheeks, a short, wide forehead and round chin. To enhance the appearance of a round face, you can use some basic contouring. Place your highlight color on the forehead, under the eyes, the top of the cheeks and the center of your chin. Then use the darker shade for the temples, cheeks and jaw. Round Face Shape Contour: Sides of jaw, temples and neck Highlight: Center of nose, center of cheeks, chin and forehead Blush: Just under the cheekbones The Heart-Shaped Face is characterized by a narrow, “pointy” chin; wider forehead and round cheekbones. (Basic guidelines) Apply contour on the temples and slightly above cheekbones and highlighter on the center of forehead and tip of chin. The heart shaped face is wide at the forehead, but then curves down to a point at the chin. To soften the lower half of the face, you will highlight the chin, forehead and under the eyes, while also darkening the temples and cheeks. Heart Face Shape Contour: Temples and chin Highlight: Lower cheeks on jaw line Blush: On the cheekbones The Long face is characterized by high cheek bones, a raised forehead and distinct jaw line. In order to shorten this face shape, use a little bronzer on the chin. You can also apply extra blush on the apples of the cheeks to bring out the distinctive cheek bones; Contour: Forehead by hairline, lower cheeks, chin. Highlight: Above cheekbones and temples. Blush: On the cheekbones The Square face. The difference between the round face and the square face is usually seen at the jaw line. When looking at the shape on your mirror, see if the corners are sharper rather than round. Also, a square face has the same width from the edges of the forehead, across the cheeks, and from right jaw to left jaw. To soften the square face you can highlight the center of the forehead, under the eyes, and the very tip of the chin. Then, darken the hairline by the temples and the chiseled corners of the jaw. Finish the look with blush on the apples of the cheeks Square Face Shape Contour: Sides of jaw and temples Highlight: Center of nose, centre of cheeks and chin BLUSH Blush: On the sides of cheekbones build color to get the desired effect. Remember, it is always easier to add more to get the vibrant look. Blush color suggestions based on skin tone. Fair –pink, coral, and peach shades that have a beige-brown undertone (red heads need to choose carefully with pinks). Medium-pale to bright pinks for those with yellow skin undertone (if your skin is pinker, avoid muted pinks like rose which will enhance a ruddy appearance) Peachy Pinks and Mauves also are excellent choices for this color tone. Olive-plums, mauves, and brownish pinks work well. Peach only works with this skin tone if it is a pink based peach. Dark- has many options ranging from pinks and plums to deep burgundy all dependent on style objectives Applying blush last will allow you to easily determine how much additional color is needed in comparison to the finished eye and lip look that you are wearing. Whether you’ve applied too much blush or just the right amount, a light dusting of finishing powder over your entire face will soften and set your look giving you a perfected air-brushed look. Dusky pink blush warms up any tired looking skin to make cheeks pop! After applying blush, apply a little highlighter on tops of cheekbones and blend towards the hairline, or use a bronzer and apply in the same manner. EYE BROWS Q: Any Eye Brow Tips A: Unkempt brows will ruin your gorgeous eyes. Have them professionally shaped. The trend now is to have natural looking eyebrows and not thin, arched brows. Use a tinted brow color of eye shadow to fill in sparse areas of your brows. Use a taupe shade to fill in brows from the inner corners to the arches and a soft brown from the arches to the ends. If you blend these two shades together your brows will have a more natural look. Q: How to get well-defined, well-groomed brows A: Brush your eyebrows straight up with an eyebrow brush. Using small straight scissors, carefully trim any hairs that are curly or too long. Then brush the brows back into their natural shape. 1. Hold a pencil along the side of your nose to ensure that the inner edge of your brow lines up with the inside corner of your eye. 2. Move the pencil so that it intersects with your iris. The arch of your brow should line up with the pencil. 3. Angle the pencil from the outside edge of your nose to the outer corner of your eye to determine where your brow should end. 4. Tweeze where necessary and fill in with a soft pencil or powder. 5. Brush with an eyebrow brush and apply eyebrow gel to keep strays in place. Q: Are there guidelines for Safe Usage of mineral cosmetics? A: Please keep in mind that these are just guidelines. Should you find your cosmetics smelling badly immediately discontinue usage and dispose of them. Most of our mineral cosmetics have no organic materials in them and therefore they have an indefinite shelf life. The exception to this is our Silk botanical powder, and our Rice powder foundation and primer. These organic ingredients have indefinite shelf lives provided they are kept in cool, dark, dry areas. Moisture must not be allowed to contaminate the product. Shelf Life Foundation – 6 to 12 months Mineral Foundation - No expiration date as long as kept dry Traditional Blush – Powder – 2 years, Cream – 1 year Mineral Blush – No expiration date as long as kept dry Traditional Eye Shadow – 2 years, Cream – 6 – 12 months Mineral Eye shadow – No expiration date as long as kept dry Mascara – 3 months Lipstick – 2 years Most of our mineral pigments are cosmetically pure and safe for usage on the eyes and lips. The exceptions to this are the blues and greens. These are made with iron oxides that have not been approved for the lips. After washing, toning and moisturizing face, allow to dry well. 1)Night Treatment is extremely effective if used nightly, on a cleansed and dried face, and if applied with clean tools. Once face is clean, toned, moisturized and dry (moisturizer has been fully absorbed) shake a small amount of Night Treatment out onto the lid or a saucer. Using a clean kabuki, taklon concealer brush or all over face brush gather the mineral treatment by swirling the brush into the mineral blend. Tap lightly to remove any excess. * It is important to use a clean brush each time you apply night treatment. Regularly cleansing your brushes will both eliminate build up that can cause breakouts as well as help your products apply better. Clean your brushes at least 1-2 times per week in a mild facial cleanser - diluted with water- or with a brush cleansing solution designed specifically for cosmetic brushes. Rinse well and then allow to dry thoroughly before using. 2)Apply Night Treatment over face paying special attention to problematic areas. Apply by dusting the powders over face and gently buffing in. There is no need to completely buff the minerals in - only to ensure that the minerals are well applyed onto problematic areas and other areas of the face where there are concerns. IE. darkened areas, areas with previous acne scars, oily areas of the face etc... 3) Night treatment may also be used during the day under your foundation if necessary. In this manner it is applied after face has been cleansed, toned, moisturized and the moisturizer has been absorbed. Then a light dusting of Night Treatment may be applied onto to facial area. Follow with 1 or 2 layers of foundation. Soaps Our soaps, both liquid and bar, are made from quality natural ingredients that are good for your skin. Traditional Sugar Body Scrubs and Body Butter This is our traditional Body Scrub formula. We use organic raw sugar, pure Shea butter, Aloe, Avocado oil, and Olive oil to create a spectacular body scrub that will not only exfoliate, cleanse, and moisturize your skin but do so with proven ingredients that are known to enhance the beauty of your skin. Shea Butter is known for it's moisturizing properties but also for its ability to restore sun damaged skin and its high anti oxidant content. Olive oil and Avocado oil are both high in anti aging and skin restoring anti oxidants. We use raw sugar for its high level of vitamins and minerals and its slight coarse texture to enhance your exfoliating process. Aloe is included to bring to the overall product even greater skin moisturizing and healing abilities. This product is pure Body Scrub so some separation should be expected. Please use a clean spoon to stir prior to use. To round out this duo we've added our traditional Shea Mango Butter Body Butter. This is a rich combination of both Shea and Mango Butters combined with other nourishing oils such as Virgin Olive Oil, Apricot, and Avocado to richly moisturize and soothe even the driest of skin types.
